After my divorce, I took a job as a receptionist for an engineering firm. Derwood and I had great benefits because of that job. I was way over-qualified but the four years of that job served its purpose. While at that job I made it very clear that I wanted no part and no recognition on Secretary/Administrative Assistant day. Nope. Pay me what I’m worth (which they did and more) but don’t give me a card or flowers or take me out for lunch. Just NO.

Most of the American public has heard of the institutional misogyny and cover up going on in Hollywood. My point, and I do have one, is that I worked in an office as an admin and the men in the office thought that one day a year they should give me flowers. Today there are women working hard in Hollywood and they have had to take the flowers. As a matter of fact, they have taken the flowers, the massage requests, the casting couch aggressions, the assaults and rapes.
In my little way, I said No, I don’t want flowers or cards for the patronizing, bullshit Admin Day.
Being invited to these award shows, attending them is a BIG deal. I get that. These award shows are confirmation to many in the industry that their work is worthy, that they have achieved a level of accomplishment that will be broadcast around the world. But this year, what if the women don’t show up?
Women of Hollywood whether you are actors, producers, directors, makeup artists, costume designers, etc. DON’T go to the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards. Don’t celebrate Hollywood. The misogyny of the casting couch has been around since silent films and has ruined women’s careers and lives. Or it has made their careers but at what price?
It is easy to put on a black dress with everyone else or a pink one or whatever color the team picks or wear a pin. It isn’t easy to boycott an event that, of course, you want to attend. If this issue is as important as the women of Hollywood are saying it is, then the hard cheese is to show the world how important it is to stand up against the show biz old boy’s network and Do. Not. Go.
On the other hand, if there are women in Hollywood who don’t care one way or the other, then rock on! Have fun at the Golden Globes and Oscars. Whatever you decide to do, avoid the hypocrisy. I personally suck in so many ways but I pride myself in not being a hypocrite.
As for the rest of us, let’s not watch. Easy.
No way. These award shows are a marketplace for these women, their work and their biggest pool of professionals at the top of their industry. Why should the WOMEN stay away? or wear black? They should wear red, because they are dancing on the grave of old Hollywood’s ways of doing business. Funtime’s over, perverts! and we’re naming names. I don’t think the women need to slink into shadows when that only hurts their stock in their industry (and that’s a bottom-line thing). I think they’ve collectively paid a high enough price already.
How do you really feel Danni? hahahaha I didn’t say slink away, I said don’t go, screw them. See how wonderful the show is with no women there. I think it would be an impactful gesture that will NEVER happen.
Ahahahaha! What a diplomat I would be!
