Did anyone else notice that in the middle of the day yesterday the WordPress site changed again? I don’t like it. I don’t like the Freshly Pressed page. I don’t like the reader. I liked being able to see thumbnails of all the FP posts not having to scroll down through big photos to see what is new in FP.
I don’t even know all the words to describe what has changed but I do know I don’t like it.
Well, I like the new stats thing. But I don’t like the new layout of My Blog, Reader or Freshly Pressed. Please make it stop.
Anyone else?
No? It’s just me?
But it’s for our own good, obviously.
WP would never deliberately piss off so many bloggers.
Like they have before.
Multiple times.
Hmph.
OK phew, it’s not just me. Sheesh.
I don’t like the Freshly Pressed page either! It’s bugging me!
Right? I want to be able to scan the FP page and read what looks interesting. Errrgghh!
I NEVER go anywhere except my blog and my blogroll peeps. I never look at my stats either, sooo I’m probably the worst person to complain to. I don’t even know how to find the freshly pressed page! Lol!
Lis, you are probably the only blogger on earth that doesn’t look at their stats. You have tremendous self-esteem! xo
The reader looks so weird now. Totally unclear and confusing in my opinion. I hate the the blue they use and I hate the rearrangements in the structure….
I hate the blue. I hate the new bubbly font.
I hate it, too!!! I think it’s a lot less user friendly. I also hate how many steps it now takes to get to the dashboard. Not a fan, wordpress!
And yeah, the reader sucks!!!!
What she said!
Yeah, I agree (almost wrote this post myself). It’s also a lot slower (at least for me, when I click the comment icon in the top tool bar…).
I almost got confused which view I was in one time, too, and almost congratulated somebody I follow for being freshly pressed…
I think it is much slower. And go write a post to make them stop it!
NO. I WON’T. HA!
I actually like the reader because the scrolling doesn’t skip around like it used to while it was loading. I hated that with a passion.
I definitely don’t like the Freshly Pressed page. Not having it tiled will most definitely hurt the people being pressed. People will scroll to a certain point and stop in my opinion. Before, you could sort of glance around and pick which ones you wanted to read.
Tiled! Great word Jen! That’s what I want WordPress, I want tiles! And yeah it will hurt people just being FPd now because I’m not lookin’ at it and if I’m not lookin’ at it, what is the point??
Yike. Freshly Pressed. I’ll pass. Period. I have no interest in scrolling down through a long series of half articles to find something I want to read. Ridiculous.
Let’s make it impossible to engage more people in interesting blogs. Wise designers know that choice on the internet is immediate. Not involving prolonged scrolling and clicking. UGH.
Pat attention WordPress! Cheryl Hansen knows her stuff and wants to read blogs even though she’s not a blogger. The Freshly Pressed page is a MESS!!
I’m so glad it wasn’t just me.
It is not just you – but if you go to one of the blogs you follow that are in your email–hit comment and go into their blog–you will see in the upper right hand corner the stuff we like and are familiar with
they did this once before and reverted back–hope they revert back again
You and me both!
I had to log in to find out what you were talking about. I like the OLD way better. The one long ago when you logged out and all the FPs came up, like nine across a page. It seemed more reader-friendly to me. The other day I was trying to post and it would put funky fonts on one paragraph and not the others…I had to wipe it out and start all over. Maybe it was when they were changing things. I agree with you, Maggie. And yeah, the tiled thing mentioned above (I agree with Jen) — that’s what I was talking about — that’s better. Sheesh.
I wish they would send us something that explains…this is why we are doing this because I see no rhyme or reason for this move.
Yes, I’m with you…I hate it!! I want it changed back. I don’t like it one bit and I don’t feel like adjusting! Thank you for writing this. I thought I was seeing things.
I know! I let it go for a day thinking maybe I hit something weird and it will go back to normal after I log out but nope.
I hate it, and I’m mildly convinced it’s why the post I scheduled for 8 a.m. just didn’t post for whatever reason. My app on my phone said it was published, and the internet disagreed. I blame the new site design.
Well get on that! We’re waiting!
It should be up now! Oh God, is it not??? SHIT SHIT SHIT.
Don’t like Freshly Pressed either. They changed to this format around Christmas and then changed back again. Now they’ve done it again. Post a comment on their Support Forum. Hopefully others will chime in and maybe they will switch back.
I’m scared of the support forum. They are so overwhelmed that I feel like I’m intruding 🙂
You go do it!
I noticed that something about it looked different yesterday, and hated it, but figured that was just me being me. Now I feel better knowing that it’s you, me and judging from your commenters, many other bloggers. This reminds me of the adage, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. So annoying.
That’s why it took me a day to realize it was different and staying different. I tend to think it’s just me being difficult or stupid or both.
I don’t like the changes either, it’s much harder to get around I think. I wish they would put it back the way it was.
Fingers crossed that enough bloggers are raising hell that “they” will give us back our WP!
Reblogged this on The abrasive embrace and commented:
Yes, and it *is* much slower, too.
Thanks for the reblog!
Yay, not just me! Bad enou tat two of te letters on my keyboard ave stopped workin. uess wic ones.
Those two are in the middle, just work around them 🙂
I preferred it before – I was just the hang of it as a newbie blogger, and then they went and changed it all! I do like seeing the stats as number of viewers and number of views, but overall I dislike.
I’m with you. I like the new stats page but the rest of it is annoying. Will go see your “newbie’ blog!

I wonder if WP actually ask THE PEOPLE WHO USE the site their opinion before making these stupid changes. Apart from what you mention, the notifications screen has gone, and the icon doesn’t work properly, and I used to be able to hover on my gravatar to link to my different blogs, but they’ve removed this from the admin pages now, in the My Blogs screen you can no longer link straight to writing a new post.
I think the response to your post shows how people feel, and maybe because you are a Freshly Pressed VIP, they read your blog, and might listen. Never know! 😉
Yeah I bet that’s it Elyn 😉
The FP page can be messed with to choose between List or Grid but the rest is a big blue ugly fonted mess.
Even if they don’t ask, why in the hell can’t they explain what the point is???
I SO AGREE. Doesn’t WordPress realize that most bloggers are anxiety-prone and all of these sudden changes are just mean?
Clearly not!
I don’t use my WordPress.com account all that much, so it’s hard for me to say. But it would be nice if they gave options.
Hate it. Hate the blue. Hate the font. Gah.
Gah! is right! The blue is stoopid and the font is too big and I hate it!
my two cents– hate it
that’s only one haiku line
I hate it too. GRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, just discovered that they list you choose between List and Grid on the FP page. It’s not as great as it was but it’s better than as bad as it was.
Right?
Thanks for that information. I will change it. I still don’t like the rest of it though. The old way was much better. If it wasn’t broken why fix it?
cheers Judy 🙂
I sent WP a flurry of e-mails immediately expressing my displeasure with their coming over and, basically, re-arranging the furniture in my home without my permission! Unacceptable. Disrespectful. I get that they’re tinkering with improvements, and a “heads up!” would go a long way to mitigating my displeasure!!! xoxoM
That is the perfect analogy….I didn’t ask. Nothing was wrong with where I had the couch, please leave.
its terrible. and much slower
It is and thank you for the reblog!
I don’t like it either. It looks clunkier somehow. Why do they go and fix things that aren’t broken??
The big bubbly font is really bugging me. And It took me some time to figure out how to write a new post. I tried to load your video and it wouldn’t let me. Bastards.

WordPress-your new format sucks
true! me too ! I feel like so confused wth the reader!
And the reader doesn’t have the option to make it tiled or just not have to scroll through everything. sigh.
My worry is whether all the thoughts put to words over the years as blogs might disappear ! It is next to impossible to recount what all we wrote all along. Trust wordpress considers this aspect with its bloggers before embarking on changes to layout et al.
ohhhh, I need to export my blog to save it. Good thinking!
Can’t stand it! Maybe we should start a petition?
I’m sure, they have had a computer full of bitching about this move!
I can barely be bothered to read anything – quite unappealing!! Don’t like it…
Exactly! This will make me stick to just reading the blogs I subscribe to so that I can go directly to them. They f’d up the reader a couple of months ago and now it’s even worse. Sigh.
No, not just you. I dont like it. At all.
None of the cool kids do.
At first I was, like, DOOD?. Then I was like, DOOD!? After a few minutes, I was down to doooood… And now I’m like, Dood… NOT AGAIN?!!
I always think of McCoy’s statement when this happens. “You know engineers, they love to CHANGE things.”
Fricken engineers. Quit changing shit!
Just wait until tomorrow. They’ll have dancing babies all over the home page or something. Or maybe the Gravitars will start to talk.
Dood, I’m going to check out your blog. Because, Dood, yeah. The new format will limit people finding and reading new blogs. This is how people will start finding new doods to read.
Agree… not a fan at all! So glad I’m not the only one.
Clearly we are not alone. I’m just sticking to my own page, I’m scared to go off into the weirdness.
Glad to know I am not the only one. I dislike the new layout too.
Agree entirely. I blogged on this too. The new layouts are dreadful. And I have given up reading the Reader and Freshly Pressed. The only way to find new and interesting blogs is now via links – got here from Reflections on Life Thus Far who published a link.
I’m going to email support today and mention exactly what you just said. This is going to adversely affect new bloggers and FPd bloggers because no one is going to want the hassle of dealing with the new format. I find new blogs from other blogs and from comments like yours. I’ll be right over!
Lovely to meet you Maggie. Hope the WordPressers get the message.
If you pop over, help yourself to biscuits and make yourself at home! 🙂

I noticed it too. I usually access WordPress on the app on my phone and the changes have not translated well to phone use. It’s annoying but as there are changes happening so often at the moment, I’m just holding out hope that the next change will come out with something better.
Dare to dream.
