OK WordPress, What Is Going On Now?

Did anyone else notice that in the middle of the day yesterday the WordPress site changed again? I don’t like it. I don’t like the Freshly Pressed page. I don’t like the reader. I liked being able to see thumbnails of all the FP posts not having to scroll down through big photos to see what is new in FP.

I don’t even know all the words to describe what has changed but I do know I don’t like it.

Well, I like the new stats thing. But I don’t like the new layout of My Blog, Reader or Freshly Pressed. Please make it stop.

Anyone else?

No? It’s just me?

  1. A gripping life

I NEVER go anywhere except my blog and my blogroll peeps. I never look at my stats either, sooo I’m probably the worst person to complain to. I don’t even know how to find the freshly pressed page! Lol!

  2. The reader looks so weird now. Totally unclear and confusing in my opinion. I hate the the blue they use and I hate the rearrangements in the structure….

  3. I hate it, too!!! I think it’s a lot less user friendly. I also hate how many steps it now takes to get to the dashboard. Not a fan, wordpress!

    And yeah, the reader sucks!!!!

  4. TAE

Yeah, I agree (almost wrote this post myself). It’s also a lot slower (at least for me, when I click the comment icon in the top tool bar…).
I almost got confused which view I was in one time, too, and almost congratulated somebody I follow for being freshly pressed…

  5. I actually like the reader because the scrolling doesn’t skip around like it used to while it was loading. I hated that with a passion.

I definitely don’t like the Freshly Pressed page. Not having it tiled will most definitely hurt the people being pressed. People will scroll to a certain point and stop in my opinion. Before, you could sort of glance around and pick which ones you wanted to read.

    1. Tiled! Great word Jen! That’s what I want WordPress, I want tiles! And yeah it will hurt people just being FPd now because I’m not lookin’ at it and if I’m not lookin’ at it, what is the point??

Yike. Freshly Pressed. I’ll pass. Period. I have no interest in scrolling down through a long series of half articles to find something I want to read. Ridiculous.
Let’s make it impossible to engage more people in interesting blogs. Wise designers know that choice on the internet is immediate. Not involving prolonged scrolling and clicking. UGH.

  7. It is not just you – but if you go to one of the blogs you follow that are in your email–hit comment and go into their blog–you will see in the upper right hand corner the stuff we like and are familiar with
they did this once before and reverted back–hope they revert back again

  8. I had to log in to find out what you were talking about. I like the OLD way better. The one long ago when you logged out and all the FPs came up, like nine across a page. It seemed more reader-friendly to me. The other day I was trying to post and it would put funky fonts on one paragraph and not the others…I had to wipe it out and start all over. Maybe it was when they were changing things. I agree with you, Maggie. And yeah, the tiled thing mentioned above (I agree with Jen) — that’s what I was talking about — that’s better. Sheesh.

  9. I hate it, and I’m mildly convinced it’s why the post I scheduled for 8 a.m. just didn’t post for whatever reason. My app on my phone said it was published, and the internet disagreed. I blame the new site design.

Don’t like Freshly Pressed either. They changed to this format around Christmas and then changed back again. Now they’ve done it again. Post a comment on their Support Forum. Hopefully others will chime in and maybe they will switch back.

  11. I noticed that something about it looked different yesterday, and hated it, but figured that was just me being me. Now I feel better knowing that it’s you, me and judging from your commenters, many other bloggers. This reminds me of the adage, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. So annoying.

I wonder if WP actually ask THE PEOPLE WHO USE the site their opinion before making these stupid changes. Apart from what you mention, the notifications screen has gone, and the icon doesn’t work properly, and I used to be able to hover on my gravatar to link to my different blogs, but they’ve removed this from the admin pages now, in the My Blogs screen you can no longer link straight to writing a new post.
I think the response to your post shows how people feel, and maybe because you are a Freshly Pressed VIP, they read your blog, and might listen. Never know! 😉

    1. Yeah I bet that’s it Elyn 😉
The FP page can be messed with to choose between List or Grid but the rest is a big blue ugly fonted mess.
Even if they don’t ask, why in the hell can’t they explain what the point is???

      1. Thanks for that information. I will change it. I still don’t like the rest of it though. The old way was much better. If it wasn’t broken why fix it?

        cheers Judy 🙂

  14. I sent WP a flurry of e-mails immediately expressing my displeasure with their coming over and, basically, re-arranging the furniture in my home without my permission! Unacceptable. Disrespectful. I get that they’re tinkering with improvements, and a “heads up!” would go a long way to mitigating my displeasure!!! xoxoM

  15. My worry is whether all the thoughts put to words over the years as blogs might disappear ! It is next to impossible to recount what all we wrote all along. Trust wordpress considers this aspect with its bloggers before embarking on changes to layout et al.

    1. Exactly! This will make me stick to just reading the blogs I subscribe to so that I can go directly to them. They f’d up the reader a couple of months ago and now it’s even worse. Sigh.

  16. At first I was, like, DOOD?. Then I was like, DOOD!? After a few minutes, I was down to doooood… And now I’m like, Dood… NOT AGAIN?!!

I always think of McCoy’s statement when this happens. “You know engineers, they love to CHANGE things.”

    Fricken engineers. Quit changing shit!

Just wait until tomorrow. They’ll have dancing babies all over the home page or something. Or maybe the Gravitars will start to talk.

    1. Dood, I’m going to check out your blog. Because, Dood, yeah. The new format will limit people finding and reading new blogs. This is how people will start finding new doods to read.

  17. Agree entirely. I blogged on this too. The new layouts are dreadful. And I have given up reading the Reader and Freshly Pressed. The only way to find new and interesting blogs is now via links – got here from Reflections on Life Thus Far who published a link.

    1. I’m going to email support today and mention exactly what you just said. This is going to adversely affect new bloggers and FPd bloggers because no one is going to want the hassle of dealing with the new format. I find new blogs from other blogs and from comments like yours. I’ll be right over!

  20. I noticed it too. I usually access WordPress on the app on my phone and the changes have not translated well to phone use. It’s annoying but as there are changes happening so often at the moment, I’m just holding out hope that the next change will come out with something better.
